Okay so we all know that a wedding is one day right? And even though it's one of the most fantastic and special days of your life it's still one day long... So let's think about this? Why is it so crazy expensive? Here I am in the middle, well more like beginning, of planning my wedding with my fiance and wow the quotes are blowing us away. Granted we are planning a wedding for about 150 guests but we are also, well I am, doing a lot of things ourselves. I am a pretty crafty person (and I love it!) so I'm making my own favors (yeah 150 of them), doing my own florals, and most of my own decor for the wedding. The DJ costs, more than I thought, but not too bad, I can live with that. So far the quotes we've really looked at are from caterers - like $6K! Wow! That was a bit of a slap in the face, that's not even including the alcohol and drinks! So we sit and put together a digital wedding budget to keep track of things... comes to like $20K and that's supposedly a low budget wedding, My luxury loaded Jeep Commander didn't cost much over that! And I get to spend almost every day in my Jeep - that makes sense to me... but the $20K for a one day party? I'm a little confused. It's getting to the point that to have a nice wedding for your whole family and friends to be able to come you've got to be a millionaire - how common is that in our current economy state? So now here we are stuck in this catch 22 - we really want a nice wedding and we have tried to cut down our guest list as much as we can (my fiance has a huge family!) yet we're thinking hmmm - we could buy another car, or we could put more money towards the house... It just blows my mind that a wedding can put a couple in more debt than buying a car does.
